Kelly Schmahl

Mentor

Kelly graduated from the University of Western Sydney in 2007.

She then commenced work in the field of mental health, with a particular interest in PTSD, ECT and drug & alcohol rehabilitation.
She then spent a large portion of her career working in General Practice, where she was able to learn and refine clinical interventions for patients who were living with chronic diseases, such as diabetes and asthma.
She is currently involved in project management work, aiming at resolving issues brought up at the Aged Care Royal Commission in our Local Health District.

What is your favourite quote that reflects the Unity Studios philosophy: “Everyone needs to be valued. Everyone has the potential to give something” – Diana, Princess of Wales.

What are your Qualifications: Bachelor of Nursing, Master of Health Management, Diploma of Law. Currently working on Cert IV Training & Assessment.

Hobbies: Board games, painting and crafts, cross-stitching and walking.

What do you love about working at Unity Studios: Aside from increasing my joke repertoire from one of our youngest mentees, I love our non-judgemental atmosphere. Even running the art classes, one of my projects didn’t turn out the way I was hoping it would. My mentees were quite quick to tell me that “I’d do better next time”, and just “to practice”. It makes me really happy that our vision and values are not only shown to our participants but also reflected back to myself and other members of our team.

What areas are you currently mentoring: Young Adult – Adult Team Leader – I oversee the secondary Art class on Tuesday evenings.
